Job Title – Legal Officer
Location – Lagos

Job Summary
We are sourcing for a legal officer to ensure legal and regulatory compliance across all product lines and manage day-to-day legal operations, including handling insurance claims.

Responsibilities:
Monitor and ensure the company’s compliance with industry-specific regulations, including tenant/property laws , e-commerce regulations.
Drafting, reviewing, and processing contracts to ensure legal accuracy and alignment with business objectives.
Manage and process insurance claims for our e-commerce platform, ensuring that claims are legitimate, properly documented, and follow all legal protocols.
Oversee the company’s data privacy compliance efforts, ensuring that customer data is handled and other applicable data protection laws.
Maintain and organize all legal records, ensuring that contracts, filings, and legal documentation are accurate, secure, and up to date.
Conduct legal research to support decision-making, ensuring the legal department stays ahead of emerging issues and legal trends.
Communicate with third-party vendors, clients, and external partners to ensure contractual terms are upheld and disputes are resolved promptly.
Respond to regulatory inquiries and assist in investigations, ensuring the company’s legal position is protected.
Ensure the company complies with employment laws, including drafting and reviewing employee contracts and managing benefits-related legalities.
Prepare and present legal reports to senior management, highlighting potential risks and areas of non-compliance.
Track and report legal KPIs, including contract processing times, compliance audit results, and insurance claim resolution metrics.
Support the implementation of legal compliance training programs for employees, ensuring that all staff understand their legal responsibilities.
Assist with risk management, identifying areas of potential legal exposure and providing strategies to mitigate these risks.
Coordinate with external counsel on specialized legal matters, ensuring that the company’s legal interests are fully represented.
Assist in enforcement of company wide policy

Job Requirements
Educational & Professional Qualifications
LL.B. (Hons) from a reputable university, typically with a Second Class Upper or higher
Must be called to the Nigerian Bar and possess valid NYSC discharge or exemption documentation.
Years of Experience
Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible practice in corporate and commercial law.

Key Skills & Expertise
Strong contract drafting and review capabilities — including MOUs, NDAs, leasing agreements, service-level agreements, and e-commerce partnerships
Sharp skills in legal research, corporate governance, business-law advisory, and risk assessment
Familiarity with Nigerian laws and regulatory frameworks—such as CAMA (Companies and Allied Matters Act), property laws, consumer protection, and any fintech-related regulation affecting e-commerce and rentals
Experience coordinating with external legal counsel for litigation, compliance, or specialized legal advisory needs
Excellent communication skills (written and oral), attention to detail, multitasking capability, and comfort working under pressure
Tech-savviness is a plus—proficiency in drafting agreements for tech platforms, digital transactions, and possibly data privacy.
