Job Title – AI Engineer

Job Summary
The AI Engineer at Helpmum will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying intelligent solutions that address real-world & health challenges

We are looking for a mission-driven AI Engineer to lead the development and deployment of life-saving AI models. You won’t just be writing code; you will be building systems that predict pregnancy risks, optimize vaccination schedules, and provide medical guidance to thousands of mothers across the continent.

Key Responsibilities
Model Development: Design, train, and fine-tune machine learning models, specifically focusing on Natural Language Processing (NLP) for our chatbots and Predictive Analytics for health risk stratification.
LLM Optimization: Lead the further development of MamaBot-Llama, focusing on fine-tuning open-source LLMs (like Llama 3) to provide localized and medically accurate health advice.
Deployment & Scaling: Architect and maintain scalable AI pipelines using cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP) to ensure our tools work reliably in low-bandwidth environments.
Data Strategy: Work with our field teams to clean and preprocess unique maternal health datasets, ensuring data integrity and addressing algorithmic bias to protect marginalized populations.
Product Integration: Collaborate with software engineers to integrate AI models into our WhatsApp-based bots (VaxBot) and mobile applications through robust APIs.
Ethical AI: Ensure all AI solutions comply with healthcare data privacy standards (NDPR/GDPR) and prioritize “AI for Good” principles.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or a related technical field.
Experience: 3+ years of experience in AI/Machine Learning engineering, preferably within health-tech or social impact sectors.
Tech Stack Proficiency: * Languages: Expert-level Python (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras).
NLP: Experience with Transformers, Hugging Face, and fine-tuning LLMs.
Data: Strong SQL and experience with data engineering tools.
Cloud & DevOps: Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and deploying models to production (MLOps).
